The efforts made by the Paris city government in combatting plastic pollution are commendable. Not only have they implemented a ban on single-use plastics, but they have also launched various campaigns to educate and motivate residents and businesses to reduce their plastic consumption. However, despite these initiatives, it is disheartening to see the state of the 13th area in Paris every Sunday. As the weekend market comes to an end, the surroundings become littered with plastic waste, creating an unsightly and environmentally harmful scene. The discarded plastic gets entangled in bicycles and becomes entwined in the small bushes nearby, exacerbating the problem. It is clear that while the city has taken steps to address plastic pollution, more needs to be done to ensure that these efforts translate into tangible changes on the ground. Every individual must recognise the importance of responsible waste disposal and work collectively to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of our city.
